Class Information

WylD Outfitters is the only fishing school in Alberta with the Sage Casting Analyzer and the Videolyzer|

Walter Simbirski, WylD Outfitter's chief instructor has taught over 600 students between the ages of 6 and 85. He is a Certified Casting Instructor with the Federation of Fly Fishers.
Classes are taught in our classroom facility located at 57 Cranberry Way SE or we can arrange for a location of your choosing. Upon completion of a WylD Outfitter class, participants who are new to fly fishing receive a complimentary six month membership to the Federation of Fly Fishers.

Beginner Classes

This 1 day (5 hour) course includes two and a half hours of classroom instruction where you will learn about equipment, rigging up, reading the water, and which flies to use. This is followed by an introduction to casting session in an open field where you will learn the basic casts. This class is ideal for those who are new to the sport of fly fishing or who want to gain a broader understanding of the basics.

Cost: $80.00 per person, includes equipment rental and booklet.
Dates: Saturdays; May 1, 8, 29, June 5, 12, 19, 26;
Sundays: May 2, 16, June 6, 13;
Times: 9 to 11:30 am , lunch break, 12:30 to 3:00)
Maximum class size: 4 students per instructor.


Parent and Child Class

A 2 evening (3 hour) course designed for parents and their children, aged nine to sixteen. Suitable for families who are curious about the sport or wish to introduce their child to the sport before heading out to the water.

Cost: $30.00 per person, includes equipment rental and a complimentary gift for each child. Discounts are available for more than two family members.
Dates: Session A-1: Tues., May 11 and Thursday, May 13 (6:00 to 7:30pm)
Session B-1: Wed., June 2 and Friday, June 4 (6:30 to 8:00 pm)


Fishing, Flowers, Chocolate and Connecting: The Couple's Class

Co-taught by fishing couple, Susan and Walter Simbirski, this class will certainly titillate your desire to spend precious time together fishing our beautiful rivers and streams. Whether you are both beginners or have a combination of casting skills, WylD Outfitters is able to cater to the learning needs of each couple.

Cost: $150.00 per couple, includes equipment rental, a complimentary sparkling beverage served in champagne glass, a rose for the ladies, chocolate, a digital photograph of the couple and a take-home booklet.
Dates: Saturday, May 15th or Saturday, July 3
Times: 9:30 to 12:00, then 1:30 to 3:00
Maximum 2 couples per session


Fix Your Casting Faults

Correct any casting fault! This 1 evening, two hour class includes personal instruction and cast analysis with the casting analyzer.

Cost: $50.00 per person, includes an emailed computer print-out of your personal
casting analysis and a short video captured on the Videolyzer.
Dates: Wed., May 26 and Wed., June 30th, 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
Maximum of 4 participants/class.


Casting Tune-Up

Let WylD Outfitters help you perfect a particular cast, learn a new cast for a specific water condition, or learn how to correct casting faults. One and one half hour duration.

Cost: $50.00 per person

Corporate Classes

Whether it be a series of lunch hour classes, an afternoon team-building session or a corporate function, WylD Outfitters will organize and manage your special corporate event.

Catered to your personal needs, private instruction is suitable for those of all abilities.

Cost: $50.00 per hour (up to 4 participants)

Incentives for Registered Charities

In addition to supporting Project Healing Waters Canada, WylD Outfitters is a supporter of registered local charities and will provide a 10% donation to each charity which commissions WylD Outfitters to organize classes, team-building sessions or events for charity members.
